Adoption Board Statement on Supreme Court Judgement

As a quasi-judicial body the Board’s scope for comment is limited to matters of fact.

The Adoption Board offers its sympathies to all parties to this adoption case for the pain they have experienced and will continue to experience while the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement is acted on.

An adoption order had not been made in this case. The Board would like to assure all those who have adopted children and have an adoption order that the judgements will not affect their adoptions.

The Board welcomes the Minister for Children’s decision, to review the five judgements to see if constitutional or legislative change is required in this area and will be available to offer its advice and assistance if requested.
