The register will be available to the following people:

Adopted people (in Ireland or abroad with Irish roots)

Natural Parents (open to any Irish person who had a child placed for adoption in Ireland , Northern Ireland , the UK , the European Union, North America , Australia , New Zealand and elsewhere)

Any Natural relative of an adopted person (brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc)

The ?adopted' person, natural parent or any natural relative in cases involving ?de facto adoptions' or illegal birth registrations.

As a friend may have been a natural parent's closest confidant during pregnancy, they can be a source of information for an adopted person, especially where the natural parent has passed away. Therefore, a friend will be able to contact the Board and the Board will hold their contact details on the adopted person's file.
